The Canon Ixus 95 is a 10 megapixel pink digital camera and looks quite a bit like the old canon ixus 80 with it’s shiny front but it has a few extra features, the one I am reviewing is dark pink in colour and has a very smooth ergonomic feel to it, it feels really good in your hand with the weight being just right at only 120 grams. The overall build seems a bit cheap compared to some of the other Canon compacts, for some reason Canon used plastic for the front shutter surround instead of metal but all in all its ok for the price.
The start up time is extremely fast, going from ‘off’ to taking a picture took about a second and a half which seems twice as fast as my old Sony, the camera comes with a 3x optical zoom which is ok but I would prefer a more powerful zoom, it comes with a descent viewfinder as well as the LCD screen which at 2.5 inches isn’t the biggest but it does the job ok. To the right of the screen are the buttons, which feel like rubber and to me are a nice touch and they fit flush with the body, at the bottom are the card slot and battery and a place for a tripod.
The viewfinder is a really great extra, sometimes under certain light conditions the LCD screens on pink digital cameras can be hard to see and this is where a viewfinder comes into it’s own, it can also extend your cameras battery life.
Even though it’s tiny you will appreciate it.
A new Canon technology called intelligent contrast correction is also included, which is supposed to automatically change the exposure for dark and light situations.
It doesn't have high-definition movie mode, only 640x480 at 30fps
Which is ok but you would have to buy the next model up if you are into HD.
For features You can adjust ISO, white balance, single or continuous shots, and recording size as well as scene modes, exposure compensation and more if you like to experiment but if you just want a point and shoot camera then the Canon is great for that too. In fact I was very surprised at just how clear and colorful the images were, from a quick snapshot to long zoom all were very sharp and crisp, depending on your taste you might find the images are a little too sharp.
At macro level the results were exceptional, all Canon cameras seem to be very good at capturing those ultra close-up shots, if you like to photograph insects and flowers then Canon is the brand to choose.
Personally I would prefer to spend the extra and buy the next model up for the HD recording but all in all it’s a great compact camera from one of the best manufacturers around. Other cameras in the same price range to consider are the Panasonic DMC fS7 and the Sony DSCW 210. and the SamsungES55 It also comes in pink.Overall it's a great pink digital camera.
