REVIEW

Sony Cybershot DSCW 210

Taking fantastic high-quality photos without spending a fortune is more than possible with the Sony Cybershot DSCW. This very affordable camera comes with numerous unique features that make photo taking a breeze. With Smile Shutter and even Scene Recognition, the Sony Cybershot DSCW 210 sets itself apart from other digital cameras on the market today.

First and foremost, it should be noted that Sony DSCW 210 features 12.1 mega pixels. This makes it one of the highest quality lightweight and affordable cameras available. It also features a 4x optical zoom feature that can create some amazing up-close-and-personal shots of your favorite photo subjects. Even if you are moving around or your photo subjects are, the Sony Cybershot features an image stabilization system known as Steady Shot, which will ensure that your final photos still come out crisp and clear.

As mentioned before, this camera features Smile Shutter, which is a unique feature that can actually detect a smile on a person face. The camera will automatically take a photo when the photo subject smiles; this makes it the perfect camera to take pictures of small children and babies with, so that you don’t miss a single smile. This takes the guess work out of when to snap your next picture!

The Scene Recognition feature included with the Sony automatically adjusts the cameras settings based on the conditions of the environment that you are shooting in. This means that the camera can easily adjust itself on cloudy days or even in poorly-lit situations in order to ensure that your final product is crisp, clear, and of the highest quality.

These two features alone are enough to set the Cybershot digital camera apart from other beginner cameras. This camera only features those settings and special features which beginners will find useful, and has removed features which are pointless or are for more advanced camera users.

Once you have taken your photographs you can easily sort through them and preview them directly on the camera, or you can instantly upload them to your computer. The camera also features specific software that you can use and place on your computer to make photo editing and organization with the Sony even more simplistic.

When it comes to aesthetics alone, the Sony Cybershot DSCW 210 camera can be found in black, silver, pink, and green. You can also obtain specially made camera cases and holders. It also comes with a tripod attachment incase you want to take more stable photographs.

The only complaints experienced by users of this camera seem to be in the Smile Shutter feature running when they have not selected it. However, the majority of these issues are based on human error. You can simply disable this feature in the menu to ensure that your camera doesn’t begin taking pictures on its own.

The bottom line is: if you are looking for high quality photographs for an affordable price, then the Sony is a great camera choice.

The cybershot range of Sony cameras have been around a few years now, in fact I bought my cybershot for capturing good images of my new son six and a half years ago and haven’t had a problem with it even after it was dropped several times. At the time there was a lot of choice for a digital camera and Fuji did a camera in the same price range which was getting tons of good reviews, but what swayed my judgement was the easy way the Sony cybershot fit into my hand, it felt good in the palm where the Fuji did not because of a few parts of the camera body sticking out a little.

The other deciding factor was the camera lens, the lens is probably the most important part for capturing good photos and the Sony lens was made by Carl Zeiss who are renowned for making quality optics and has been for decades, they make camera lenses and binoculars and are usually priced at the high end of the spectrum.

The lens has not let us down and continues to take stunning snaps, I know we haven’t used the camera to it’s full capabilities, there are loads of features I just don’t use but if you like to experiment then the Sony will keep you entertained.
My only drawback was the memory space that came with the camera and after a year we bought a memory stick, which gives us, a lot longer before having to empty it.
Of course six and a half years later there is even more choice of digital cameras and Sony now sell it with a better storage capacity and memory sticks are now much cheaper and luckily they kept using the Zeiss lens. probably because they had very few complaints about it’s performance.

My friend bought a new cybershot DSCW210 on my recommendation and is very pleased with the choice, it’s a 12 megapixel camera compared to my 5 megapixel, which seemed so much at the time, and fits even better in my palm and is a lot lighter.
The pictures are very clear and crisp and I hate to admit it but they are much better than from my old camera. What really bugs me is that he paid less than half the price I did six years ago, which just shows how competition and demand can affect the price.

The Sony is also Mac compatible as well as PC and its so smart it even knows when the subject is smiling (really) you can also plug it into a HDTV and have a slideshow with music if you want. There are functions to take out the dreaded ‘red eye’ and a host of other editing options.
To sum up; Sony have done it again and set the standard for others, which is something Sony used to be very good at. Shop around as there is a big price difference between retailers and enjoy your camera for many years.
It also comes in pink!
